Glazing the Fireplace

green glaze fireplace

I updated my fireplace with green paint and brown glaze.   I've used a glazing technique before with paint and/or stain on my shutter wall, my wall candle holder, a metal lamp and various other projects.  However this time I used a glazing medium.

Tree Branch Curtain Rod

You may remember about a year ago I shared a picture of an aspen tree (gnawed down by a beaver), tied to the top of my truck.  Or maybe not, since you probably have a lot better things running through your head!  Anyhoo, I've been collecting branches and well, trees, to use as curtain rods in my master bedroom.

Bathroom Shower Curtains with Reclaimed Wood

I have a 7 year old son, 4.5 year old daughter and a 2 year old son.  There's not much of a thing called privacy in my house.  Thinking of my future and it's potential need of privacy, I decided to add a "shower curtain" to my master shower.

Framing Maps

While we're on the subject of maps as artwork, I thought I'd share my Christmas gift (in 2008) to my husband:

"Wallpapering" With Maps

My latest project?  "Wallpapering" my office niche in maps!  I put the word wallpapering in quotations because I didn't exactly wallpaper the maps.  I wasn't one hundred percent sure I was going to eighty percent love it so I decided to just go for it as a semi permanent option.  I've had minimal experience with removing wallpaper, but it was enough to know that I never wanted to do it again!

Upside Down Table Lamp Pendants part 1

I've had this idea for a hanging light fixture for years now....upside down lamps.  It's funny because I thought I got the idea from a display at Urban Outfitters, but when I finally found the picture I took (in 2006), it wasn't an upside down lamp but just a couple hanging shades.

Plants Hanging from Ladder

I found this old ladder for a couple bucks at a thrift store. Using plant hooks and wire, I attached it to the ceiling over my bathtub.

Cloud Shelf

Here's a simple project for a high shelf in a child's room. You need laminate shelf boards, white support L brackets, scrap wood and white foam boards (office supply store or craft store). The boards were cut to the length of the room and installed about 18 inches from the ceiling using white L brackets. Clouds were drawn on one side of the foam boards and then cut using an exacto blade. Using scraps of lumbar, cut various block sizes and glue to the back side of the clouds. Rest the blocks with attached clouds on shelf in a three dimensional pattern. Stick some clouds close to the shelf and overlap them with others that stick out further. Step back and check out how your clouds look before glueing the blocks to the shelf. This is a great spot to place stuffed animals.

Creative Curtains

Try using creative ways to bring more soft touches to your home. Old table clothes and bed linens can be transformed into curtains and room dividers with a few simple tools. Tension rods and curtain clips might be all you need to turn an infrequently used linen into a bit of personality in your room.

A white matelasse coverlet is used with curtain clips through a metal shower tension rod as a room divider between the bathroom and bedroom hallway.

This is table cloth folded almost in half over a white tension rod in a bathroom window.
